The Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program at The George Foundation continues to shape the next generation of changemakers across Fort Bend County. Designed as an immersive, hands-on experience, YIP brings together high school students to explore philanthropy, strengthen leadership skills, and engage directly with the nonprofit organizations serving their community.
In 2026, the program saw tremendous interest and engagement, with more than 400 students applying for the opportunity to participate. From this competitive pool, 224 students representing 27 high schools were selected, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for service and leadership among local youth. The program officially launched with a strong start, as 188 students attended the mandatory orientation session, eager to begin their journey.
During orientation, participants explored the meaning and impact of philanthropy—discussing why giving matters, the importance of volunteerism, and the role of leadership in building stronger communities. Students were divided into 11 teams, each developing a unique identity while beginning to build relationships that would carry throughout the program. This early collaboration set the tone for a year centered on teamwork, accountability, and shared purpose.
Over the course of the program, students partnered with 44 nonprofit organizations, gaining hands-on experience and insight into the diverse needs across Fort Bend County. These nonprofit partnerships are the heart of the YIP experience, providing meaningful service opportunities while helping students understand how organizations operate and make an impact. Through these experiences, students not only contributed their time and energy but also developed essential skills in communication, leadership, and problem-solving.
YIP is more than a volunteer program—it is a transformative journey. By engaging directly with community organizations and working alongside their peers, students gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities within their community. As highlighted in previous program stories like Inspiring the Next Generation of Changemakers, the program is rooted in cultivating leaders who value empathy, collaboration, and innovation while making a meaningful difference.
As the 2026 cohort continues through the program, their dedication and enthusiasm remain evident. From forming strong team connections to actively serving local nonprofits, these students are already making a lasting impact. The Youth in Philanthropy program continues to inspire and empower young leaders—ensuring that the future of Fort Bend County is in capable, compassionate hands.
