Approach

FOUNDATION INITIATED PROGRAMS
The George Foundation from time to time will
seek solutions to identified community needs
through FOUNDATION INITIATED PROGRAMS.Youth in Philanthropy
Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) is a program
encouraging high school students to learn about
the nonprofit sector through volunteerism. YIP
cultivates student leadership, letting students
develop and test different skill sets while
making a difference in the community.
There are four objectives for the YIP program:
(1) To share with students the impact
Philanthropy has on the community; (2) To expose
students to the meaningful work provided by the
Nonprofit Sector serving their community; (3) To
give students opportunities to participate in
Volunteer activities and, thus, experience what
it means to give back; and (4) To offer students
opportunities to build leadership through
experiences that can change them, the Nonprofit
Sector and the Community.
Leadership Excellence for Non-Profits
Leadership Excellence for Nonprofits is a
program designed to build organizational
effectiveness. The program recruits participants
from the Fort Bend County nonprofit sector who
have a sincere commitment, motivation and
interest in developing their skills as staff,
officers, board members, or perspective board
members. Selected applicants participate in an
interactive series of sessions over an
eight-month period in which they are provided
with tools to effectively manage community
resources for their non-profit partners.
Integrated Mental Health Care
Improving mental health is necessary to
improving the quality of life and productivity
of Fort Bend County residents. Trustees of the
George Foundation are currently considering two
grant requests to integrate mental health into
the primary care setting to assist in
identifying and treating Fort Bend residents
facing depression. To learn more about
Integrated Mental Health Care go to

Transportation
The George Foundation is partnering with Fort
Bend County to address the shortage of
transportation resources for Fort Bend County to
assist in improving transportation access for
vulnerable Fort Bend County residents seeking
critical basic human needs available throughout
the county.
